In one sentence, how can you describe Mythic Paint?
Mythic Paint is the only zero VOC, zero carcinogen, non-toxic premium quality line of paint available.
How do you compare Mythic Paint to other paints?
We at Broward Mythic Paint prefer to use the “shades of green” analogy to help clear up the “greenwashing” caused by the influx of new paints entering the market-place.
Swamp Green (almost brown)- These are the original paint products that smell so horrible your tempted to rent a hotel for the month to avoid the toxins and fumes released, but they do cover your walls good!
Dark Green -These are the products that came out with less odor, but still contain the same amount of toxins, VOC’s, and carcinogens from the original formula’s.
Olive Green -These are the products that claim to have zero VOC’s, but once mixed with the colorants which contain VOC’s are just as bad for your health as the Swamp Green.
Forest Green -These are a newer breed of paints that contain low VOC’s but still contain high amount of toxins.
Green-Green - These paints, also newer to the industry, contain low VOC’s and low toxins.
Spring Green -These are the paints that actually contain zero VOC’s and low amount of toxins. Unfortunately, at this point the spring green class of products lacks in performance!
Lime Green -This is Mythic. A paint with zero VOC’s, zero carcinogens, and zero toxins that outperforms in terms of quality and performance even the most toxic products known to man!
Is Mythic Paint LEED Certified?
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. LEED however, does not ever certify products. How is works is Green Seal sets the standards (GS-11) for “green” paint products. In turn, LEED projects use these GS-11 certified products to meet their criteria for sustainable building. Mythic Paint does exceed GS-11 criteria for coatings used in LEED certified buildings! Rumor has it, David Gottfried, founder of USGBC and World Green Building council, selected Mythic Paint for the interior and exterior of his Bay Area LEED Platinum Certification home.
How do your prices compare to the rest of the paint industry?
Our prices are actually beat most other products in the market! If you simply look at the price per gallon, we appear to be on the higher end of the price range. If you do your math however, Mythic Paint requires one coat coverage for the majority of colors and covers an average of 400 square feet per gallon. The average coverage we have calculated from “other” paint companies is anywhere between 275 and 375 square feet per gallon. This means you will use less Mythic to get the same coverage of “other” products and you will paint less coats to get the same results. All of this calculated results to competitive pricing for a superior product. Remember price per square foot not price per gallon!
What is the coat coverage of Mythic paint?
Mythic paint products cover approximately 400 square foot per gallon. Porous or textured surfaces may require more paint than previously suggested. The wall should be primed using primer product recommended for the substrate. Our paint typically covers with one coat, but if using a dark color we recommend two coats. For premium performance apply two coats.
Do you offer additional products besides Mythic Paint?
Our Showroom currently stocks top-of-the-line paint accessories from Wooster, Dynamic, Hyde, Shur-Line, Zinsser, 3M, and Merit Pro. Coming soon…eco-friendly garage floor coatings, sustainable roof coatings, and recycled wallcoverings.

Broward Mythic Paint will happily refer one of our trusted partners to offer an estimate on your interior or exterior painting needs.
Does Mythic Paint contain lead, mercury, formaldehyde, formaldehyde precursors, crystalline silica or other known toxic materials or suspected carcinogens?
Absolutely not!
What are VOC’s?
Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC’s are organic chemical compounds that have high enough vapor pressures under normal conditions to significantly vaporize and enter the atmosphere.
Some VOC’s are greenhouse gases and therefore contribute to global warming and others are just plain bad for your health. While a few VOC’s occur naturally from cows and trees, many come from manufactured products such as paint thinners, paints and varnishes and dry cleaning solvents. These VOC’s contribute to human illnesses and have been determined to be a cause of ‘sick building syndrome’. The EPA has found concentrations of VOC’s in indoor air to be 2 to 5 times greater than in outdoor air due to paint and other products.
What do the VOC’s in traditional paints do to the environment?
The Paint Quality Institute has estimated that the VOC’s in traditional paints make up 10% of the ozone depleting substances in the US.
I have seen other paints described as ‘green’ or ‘low-VOC’. How is Mythic Paint different from these?
Other paint manufacturers have removed some of the toxic ingredients in their paints. This is good, but unfortunately significantly reduces the quality and performance of their paints.
Additionally, the government doesn’t insist on a warning label for the use of some VOC’s that do not create smog but are still bad for your health – therefore some paint companies call their paint zero-VOC’s even though they contain these chemicals.
Mythic Paint is the only paint that doesn’t make you give up performance for health – Mythic’s proprietary paint is the only product that does not contain ANY toxins or VOC’s and performs better than any paint on the market.
Your paint can states, “Zero VOC excluding addition of colorant.” Are there VOC’s in your colorant?
No. Absolutely not! By law, Southern Diversified Products, the parent company of Mythic Paint was required to state that because they manufacture only the paint bases! Once the base leave the factory they have no control who adds what colorant to the product. All Mythic Paint dealers are required by Southern Diversified Products to use the same colorant made by Evonik Degussa Corporation. These colorants contain zero VOC’s, carcinogens, and toxins!
Other paints have WARNING labels on their cans. Why doesn’t Mythic Paint have this type of label?
That’s because our paint doesn’t contain anything that you need to be afraid of. Mythic Paint is NOT required by the government to place this type of warning label on their cans. There is mass confusion to the public from large paint companies entering the market with their “green” paints. You do the math…if the government requires a warning label, there must be known toxins!
OK, so Mythic Paint is safe for me, and the environment, but is it as good as other paints?
We don’t like to brag, but Mythic paint has superior performance to other paints. Mythic Paint is incredibly stain resistant, easy to clean in any sheen and has increased hide for truly ‘one coat’ use.
But you don’t just need to take our word for it. In 2007 an industry leading, independent consulting and testing laboratory service, performed side-by-side comparative tests between Mythic paint and all other leading paint brands – both their eco-friendly and premium lines. Tests focused on subjective performance including thickness, sheen, sag resistance, flow and leveling and gloss found Mythic Paint to be equal if not better than competitors. Then they tested for resistance and durability with the ‘Scrub Test’ – the industry’s gold standard in paint performance testing. Mythic Paint substantially outperformed in these tests by 1.5 to 8 times the durability of their competitors.

What type of finishes and colors does Mythic Paint come in?
Mythic Paint comes in a 1,232-color palette in both interior and exterior finishes. And we can mix any color from any competitor or any imagination – just go ahead and ask. We offer all sheens from flat to high gloss, ceiling paint, interior drywall primer, and a very unique interior/exterior multi-purpose primer with excellent adhesion, coverage and holdout.
What is paint sheen?
The sheen is the gloss level of paint. For interior paint flat is the least glossy, then eggshell, then semi-gloss, and lastly high-gloss. For exterior, satin is less glossy than semi-gloss.
How do I know which sheen to choose for my house?
Selecting the right sheen is important to ensure your complete satisfaction. Keep in mind that the appearance of paint colors is also affected by differences in gloss level.
Flat: A soft, non-reflective finish that is ideal for hiding minor surface imperfections. Ideal for use in living rooms, bedrooms and on ceilings.
Eggshell: Rich and velvety, this is our most popular and versatile finish. The outstanding cleanability of this finish makes it ideal for virtually any room including higher traffic areas and kids rooms.
Semi-Gloss: A shiny finish that is widely used on wood trim and in high moisture areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. Frequently used to provide decorative contrast.
High-Gloss: Non-yellowing finish with excellent toughness, adhesion, block resistance and minimal odor. Ideal for trim, windows, cabinets, and high-traffic areas.
Why is coverage reduced in dark, bright accent colors?
Certain accent colors may require more than one coat to obtain complete coverage and develop their true color. This is because the white pigment that provides hiding properties (through the scattering of light) in lighter tint base colors cannot be used to make dark, rich accent colors.
How long should I wait before applying another coat of paint?
Although the paint will dry to touch fairly quickly, we recommend waiting four hours between coats. High humidity, low temperature, poor ventilation and thicker films will increase the recommended dry time.
What paint should I use in areas prone to mold and mildew?
Mold and mildew can be a problem in areas of the home that have high humidity and poor ventilation such as bathrooms and kitchens. In areas where mildew is a problem, we recommend increasing the ventilation and installing a dehumidifier. The existing mildew should be removed by using a dilute 1:3 bleach and water solution. Once the surface is thoroughly dry, we recommend painting with Mythic™ Semi-Gloss.
What’s the shelf life of Mythic Paints?
When properly stored, unopened Mythic™ paints have a shelf life of at least two years. Because we don’t use toxic fungicides, our paints are subject to microbial contamination if painting tools are dipped directly into the paint can. Therefore, we recommend pouring the required amount of paint out into a separate container and immediately resealing the paint can for storage in a cool, dry place.
